The End Of A Long Morning

Description

We now had two clues on who attacked me and tried to implicate the Kingpin.

Clue One was the name of the mystery man behind my abduction and torture. "Joseph Mantell." We discovered that to be a red herring. Somehow DareDevil knew the digits of the phone number Kingpin used when he called his man earlier. (Kingpin never did mention his name. Since he wasn't responsible for the attack on me either there was no need to reveal his identity.) Using the fantasti-car's computer, which rapidly ran through every possible combination of those digits, DD and Johnny found Joseph Mantell's phone number. And a quick phone call confirmed it was the same man Kingpin had talked to.

Electro actually believed he was hired by the Kingpin's people. We knew that not to be the case. So this "Mantell" who hired Electro, whose voice I heard during my captivity, had to be an imposter. Or the Kingpin was lying. But DareDevil believed the Kingpin was telling the truth. (Somehow.) And Spider-Man seriously believed in DareDevil. And I had no reason NOT to believe them.

But Clue Two gave us more to go on. Electro said, "You were in Ariel's the whole time. The whole thing was a set up. A lure to bring you into the trap. You were sedated and left tied up in the attic until everyone left. Then Mantell had Lawman work you over."

While DD and Johnny were searching for Mantell's phone number I called Harry S. Osgood once again. He was annoyed to hear from me.

"Harry. Who hired me to perform at Ariel's?"

"Alison, no! Talking to them is not going to help your..."

"HARRY! The whole thing was a SHAM! There was never going to BE a concert!"

"What? Are you SURE about this, Alison?"

"I got it straight from the horse's mouth. Electro himself. The gig was all a TRICK to lure me into a trap. Someone connected to Ariel's is behind all this.

"Look, Harry, I was BEATEN to within an INCH of my life! Left hung to dry NAKED in the street!  Do you understand what I'm saying here? I've been HURT like I've never been hurt before! I'm ANGRY and I want to get the creeps responsible! I AM going to get satisfaction, Harry!  I HAVE to. Otherwise...otherwise part of me will die inside. A good part of me. I don't want that.  Now I need the name of the person you made the deal with. Please, Harry."

"Cynthia Manson. She's the talent scout for the Bowman Corp."

"Bowman Corp?"

"They own nightclubs like Ariel's. Ms. Manson seeks out entertainers to perform at them."

"Did she give you a number? Business and home?" He gave me both. "Thank you, Harry. I-I'll see you Monday."

"Alison. Please let me know how this turns out. Okay?"

"I will. Bye, Harry."

Another internet search of her home phone number and we got Cynthia Manson's address.

It was about 10:22 AM, (I sound like Jack Webb, don't I?), when the fantasti-car landed on the rooftop of Cynthia Manson's apartment. Daredevil, our human lie detector, made his way down to her window. Spider-Man was watching his descent while the Human Torch was telling Ororo about about the FF's team-ups with the Black Panther. Our wind rider apparently knew the former Avenger from her early days in Africa. And it was pretty obvious she was smitten with that overgrown kitten. DD signaled Spidey and Spidey signaled me.

I took my cell phone and punched in her number.

"Hello?"

"Ms. Manson? This is Alison Blaire. The Dazzler."

"The no-show. Calling to give me an excuse?"

I sighed.

"Calling to ask you WHY you hired me in the first place."

It turned out her boss, a Franklin Defalco, was the one who wanted me to perform at Ariel's. He claimed I had a decent following and would perk up business at the club. When I asked for his number, so I could talk to him, she gave me his business number and told me to make an appointment. Then she hung up.

Johnny and Ororo were still talking about T'Challa. Spidey, bored, was about to play a video game on the fantasti-car's computer.

"Spidey? Before you and Lara Croft start shooting up the scenery could you look up a Franklin Defalco of Bowman Corp?"

"Sure thing. And it's Marvel Allience, by the way. Shame you're not in this game. You'd be a fun character to play."

"I think I have to be an official super hero for that."

DD arrived. "Well. She was telling the truth too."

"We're checking on her boss now." I replied.

"CEO of Bowman...Hey!" Said Spidey after punching up the information. "I'm getting a flag."

"A flag?" I replied.

"Actually an Avenger icon."

"We're linked to the Avenger computer network." Johnny explained. "They, in turn, are linked to all kinds of government computers. The beauty of Avenger Priority. There must be something about this Defalco character that's not accessable to the average surfer."

And, after a few seconds of perusing, Spider-Man whistled. "Get this. Franklin Defalco is actually the son of a crime boss named Bo Barrigan."

Bo...BARRIGAN? Bells and whistles started going off. {"You even give us mere mortals a hard time. Techmaster. Bo Barrigan. Is it true you play 'Robin' to the Blue Shield's 'Batman?'"}

"He was actually born Thomas Barrigan." Spidey continued. "Changed his name because he wanted to pursue an acting career. Obviously THAT fell through."

"So now he's the CEO of a corporation." Johnny said. "I bet dear ol' Dad's the owner."

"Bingo." Spider-Man replied.

"Dazzler. I take it you've had dealings with Barrigan." DareDevil.

"Last year I had a run in with Barrigan and some of his goons. They stole something called a 'Terror Tank.' I stumbled upon it. They found me. We fought. The Blue Shield showed up..."

"Blue Shield?" Ororo blurted. "I'm sorry I interrupted, Alison. And I know I'm sounding the fool here. But I take it 'Blue Shield' does not pertain to a health plan?"

"That's okay, Ororo." I replied. "He's a super hero like DD and Spidey. But while they fight all types of super villains, this guy's sole reason for being is to just take on gangsters like the Barrigan crime family."

I then continued.

"There's some serious history between those two. Barrigan got into the tank and tried to take us down. The Shield got clobbered and Barrigan came after me. I managed to lure him down the pier and into the water. The tank sank and the Shield, who recovered, retrieved Barrigan. And that was that. I left and the Shield was supposed to turn Barrigan over to the authorities. The only reason I even remember him at all is because Lawman mentioned him before beating me up."

"And now his son arranges for you to perform at a fake gig." Johnny said. "Sounds like someone ELSE has an act of vengence going."

"Except why implicate the Kingpin?" I asked.

"Perhaps Kingpin's an enemy of the Barrigan crime family." Ororo offered.

"Could be. But how does me thinking Kingpin attacking me help Barrigan? Or Defalco?"

"Only one or both can answer that." Ororo replied.

"I remember reading about the tank being found at the bottom of the river." Spider-Man said. "But I don't recall anything about Barrigan being arrested."

"Me either." DD added.

"Nor I." I also added. "Curious."

"Well." Johnny said. "There's two people we can ask. Defalco. Or big daddy, Bo."

We all decided Defalco. Ask the guy who set the trap.

Using the computer as our bloodhound we got his home phone and address. I decided to call the number Cynthia Manson gave me first and got a computer recording for my trouble. I then called the home phone. My blood ran cold when the answering machine spoke.

"Can't come to the phone now. Leave a message or call back."

"Alison?" Storm looked at me with concern.

"It's HIS voice, Ororo." I said as I ended the call. "The voice of Joseph Mantell's IMPOSTER!"

Looks like DD might be right. We may have this thing wrapped up before noon.

We then proceeded to Defalco's home. It was in a well to do neighborhood. A mansion surrounded by a high wall. We did a discreet flyover and got a lay of the land using the fantasti-car's camera. There was a gate shack in the front.  Two men inside. The fantasti-car scanner didn't pick up any other life signs. The place was empty.

"Damn it." I swore. "I was hoping."

It can never be simple, can it?

"He may come back soon." Ororo said.

"Or he could be gone all weekend." DareDevil said. "Dazz, Ali, much as I'd like to help you there are other things I have to do this weekend."

"Yeah." Spidey added. "Me too."

"If you have to quit, I understand guys. Really I do." I said. "I'm truly grateful that you got me this far."

And I was. What they did for me today was far and away the nicest thing ever done. I wanted to hug them right then and there.

"I'm not quitting yet, Ali." Spidey said. "Day's still young. I say we try our luck with Big Daddy Bo."

"I'm not out either." DareDevil said. "But before we deal with Barrigan. I think we should take advantage of the opportunity here. Do a little snooping. That is if no one objectrs to a little B & E."

No one did.

It was 11:09 AM when the fantasti-car landed in a wooded area just outside the neighborhood. A short time after that Johnny was boosting me over the wall behind the gate shack. I was in full sound absorption mode so the two guards wouldn't hear me when I landed. I snuck into position and dazzle-bursted them both before they could see me. DD was right. Inside the shack was a security camera monitoring system. I called out Johnny's name and a few seconds later the Human Torch landed next to me. Johnny then repositioned all the back yard security cameras so that they wouldn't be watching the house, its back door and the middle of the end wall.

The others waited behind the end wall in the back yard. Spider-Man's spidey-sense or DD's weird super hearing would be the very subtle signal that everything was ready. Storm, using her powerful winds, carried them all to the back door. Using the lockpicks she kept hidden in her headdress Ororo was able to get them inside without breaking anything. Spider-Man, using his spidey-sense, was able to deactivate the house alarm system. Meanwhile, Johnny and I waited at the gate shack. The Torch reset the cameras back to their original configuration when we got the "all clear" signal. Which was one of them simply opening the front door. The whole thing took them less than a minute.

The two guards awoke in a fog with flashing lights. When we left they believed that nothing unusual happened at all. Everything was as it should be. There was asolutely no hint of an intrusion.  With the exception of a missing spare flashdrive.

We lifted off and headed for Bo Barrigan's at roughly 11:41 AM.

"It was uncanny how they homed in on that panic room." Ororo said of Spidey and DD. "Once inside we found weapons, narcotics, enough to choke an elephant, a safe and a computer. I cracked the safe. I'm really out of practice. Took me all of two minutes. There were...compromising photos and such. Blackmail items. Spider-Man used his spider-sense to figure out Defalco's password. Once accessed he found all kinds of interesting files. Which he downloaded into a spare flashdrive. There was even a file on you."

"Me?" I said. Seriously? "Seriously?"

I read the file enroute and learned I had more of a history with the Bo Barrigan family than I thought. They kept a record.

It started with a crooked manager I had before signing on with Harry Osgood. He was actually one of Franklin Defalco's men. While I didn't know his connection to the mob I did find out he was a crook. I confronted him and told him we were done. His response was to send goons after me to force me into a contract that was basically an agreement to slave labor. I fought them with Spider-Man's help. When he learned of my problem Spidey went after the creep. Somehow he found evidence that would get him jailed. Defalco lost a man and it was no secret I was the motivation for it.

Then there was the Terror Tank business and my first pairing with the Blue Shield.

After that it was the Techmaster. It turns out Barrigan financed Billy Bitzer's Techmaster operation so he'd exclusively create custom weapons for his organization. As it turned out the Techmaster had a vendetta against Harry Osgood. He blamed Harry for a disfiguring accident that also cost him his hands. That situation had been resolved. But shortly after that Bitzer quit making weapons for Barrigan. I had nothing to do with that. Truth is Techmaster was recruited by A.I.M. (I learned this from Nick Fury.) But, apparently, Bo Barrigan blamed me for losing him another man. This one a valuable part of his organization.

Then there was "Dr. Sax" and "Johnny Guitar." (Seriously that's what they called themselves.) Former musicians turned criminal. Somehow they became part of Barrigan's mob. (Which I did not know until now.) And they were given Techmaster weapons in the form of a sax and a guitar. (Seriously. A SAX and a GUITAR!) When I encountered them they were out for revenge against their former band mates. Now MY band. I managed to stop them and they were put in jail. So I cost Barrigan two more of his men.

I encountered the Blue Shield again in LA. A situation involving the She-Hulk. Barrigan didn't lose anything that time.

Then there was a costumed arsonist called Flame. He had a Techmaster original in the form of a fire sword. Another man lost thanks to the Dazzler.

A couple of weeks ago I had another encounter with the Blue Shield. A high school friend turned prostitute, Willow Helmon, wanted out. But Barrigan's people wasn't going to let her. As it turned out the Shield also knew Willow. The kid sister of a former love. We both tried to save her. We failed. Willow was murdered. We both went a little crazy. I took my anger out on the henchmen. The Shield took it out on Barrigan's pimp. I actually had to stop the Shield from killing him. By now Barrigan, or Defalco, whoever created this file, was beginning to think the Shield and I were partners.

While I was reading the file Spidey was on the fantasti-phone talking to a friend on the police force. A Jean DeWolfe. He was telling her what was in that panic room at Franklin Defalco's house.  When Spidey ended the call he said, "Captain DeWolfe's getting a warrant. If all goes well Defalco will get busted for the narcotics at the very least."

"It's been a productive morning." DareDevil said. "We recaptured Electro. And we're about to legally bust part of a crime family. Maybe the whole family."

"All because of you, Dazz." Johnny smiled.

Maybe I should get beat up more often. Nope. Forget that.

It's always the last place you look. Bo Barrigan had a manson in a remote area. Like with his son's place we did a discreet flyover. There was more land to cover. Like the Kingpin's penthouse there were guards all over the place. The ones in front wore street clothes. Within the mansion there were numerous life signs. Behind the mansion there was a gathering of people surrounding a large pool. Women in bikinis. Some men in swim trunks. Others were in suits or street clothes. (Guards more than likely.) The computer's facial recognition program IDed Bo, his son and other criminal types. Bo was in a suit. Franklin Defalco was in trunks. They were chatting with other criminal types the computer identified as members of the Barrigan crime family.

"It's your show, Dazz." Daredevil said. "But would you object if we all had a piece of the action on this one?"

"Not a bit, good sir."

A few moments later Storm glided over the front lawn and formed a vortex of wind that sucked everyone towards it. Once they were all collected I zapped them with a dazzle-burst from the descending fantasti-car which was on automatic. Both Spidey and DD had leaped from our ride and headed towards the mansion.

At the same time Storm created her vortex the Human Torch, (SO HAPPY he got to do something besides drive us around), appeared at the back of the house. As expected, everyone was startled. As expected, the gunsels opened fire. As EXPECTED, the bullets all melted before they even reached him. Johnny formed a ring of fire around everyone. He contracted it and made everybody jump into the pool. Johnny not only maintained the ring, to keep everyone in the pool, he also absorbed the flames of the objects that were now burning FROM his fire.

Spider-Man had entered through the top floor balcony. DareDevil kicked down the front door. As Ororo and I walked towards the mansion, because the fantasti-car landed almost dead center of the vast front lawn, we could easily hear the sounds of their mayhem. Including screaming women. We entered the front doorway and saw unconscious thugs, busted furniture, bullet holes and two stark naked women running down the stairs. They stopped at the sight of us.

"Who hired the Dom?" One of them asked. "We got Chrissy for that."

"I think they're with those two creeps upstairs." Replied the other.

"Eve, Godiva, say good night." I said before zapping them with a dazzle-burst.

Spidey and DareDevil appeared. Casually walking.

"Two naked chicks doing girl on girl in front of this 16 year old. He was jer..." Spidey saw us and, "EnJOYing the show when I busted down the door."

"Nice." Replied DD.

"Ewww." I said.

"It was a sarcastic 'Nice.'" DD responded. "Shall we go out back?"

We stepped out back. The ring of fire was still going but Johnny was now on the ground draining the pool as planned. Upon seeing us, our cosmic ally dissolved the ring.

"You people stay put unless told otherwise!" Johnny ordered as he flamed on and took to the air once again. Hovering over them like the burning sentry he was.

Spider-Man web-snagged Bo Barrigan and his son, Franklin Defalco, and yanked them out. Ororo, meanwhile, had darkened the sky with black storm clouds. Just so my light could glow brighter.

"You costumed assholes better have a good lawyer." An angry Barrigan started. "'Cause when I'm done with you...

"SHUT UP!" I yelled.

He yelled back.

"DON'T TELL ME TO SHUT UP, YOU FUCKIN' CUNT! YOU..."

When he got a good look at me, and realized who I was, the wind left his sails. His jaw dropped leaving his mouth open big enough for a bird to fly into. He wasn't expecting to see a healthy Dazzler. He wasn't expecting to see ANY kind of Dazzler. There was GUILT written all over him.

"YOU will keep that yap SHUT until I'm ready to talk to you!" I said with the harshest voice I could muster. "Otherwise the next martini you slurp will be through a STRAW!"

I then looked at Defalco with glowing eyes. "I'll be talking to Junior first." He looked a little pale. Yeah. He wasn't expecting me either.

Then I looked down on everyone else. It was a longshot but you never know.

"Anyone down there calls themself 'Lawman?'"

Nobody answered. But then DD pointed to a big muscular bald man in a suit.

"That one."

"What the FUCK you talkin' about?" He tried to play innocent but his voice betrayed him. This WAS the creep who beat me up. This was LAWMAN!

"Spidey?"

A "thwip" and a yank later I had three fish I was going to fry.

Someone had shouted "Ram!" as he was removed from the crowd. Must have been his real nickname. I thought "Lawman" had to be a fake name. Especially since it was used in a con job against me.

"Strip muscle beach there to his briefs." I said. "He's gonna learn FIRST HAND what I went through."

"It can't be you." Lawman---Ram---said. "T-There's no way you...."

Spidey ripped the suit right off him.

"I'm the Dazzler, jerkwad. "It's what I do. Thanks, Spidey."

"No prob, Dazz."

I went over to the pool to dazzle the rest of them unconscious. Less people to worry about. But then I saw HER!

"Spidey? The brown haired girl in the purple bikini."

He snagged her and yanked her out.

"Who is she?"

"Someone who was 'kidnapped' for my benefit. Another part of the con job played on me."

I looked at her. "I'll deal with you after I deal with the others."

She just looked at me bug-eyed. She was afraid. She saw me in action the other night and knew what I could do.

I looked down on the others who were all watching me. Good. I fired off a dazzle-burst. A few seconds later there was a pool full of unconscious people.

Then I went to work on my first victim. The one called "Ram." (I would later learn his last name was Ramsey.)

"Guys." I asked my posse." "Please take these creeps inside and wait for me."

My friends and enemies went into the house. Leaving me and this animal alone.

"You, big POWERFUL man that you are, like to beat up women who are tied up and can't defend themselves." I started to glow. Particles of blinking lights swirling around me. All a crimson demonic hue.

"B-Boss pays me. I follow orders." He was sweating. Scared. This creep was used to dealing with ORDINARY people. People like him.

"Like a good little Nazi." I replied sarcastically. "A Nazi who ENJOYS his work. Or were you laughing about something else as you BATTERED me with a BASEBALL BAT?"

I fired a couple of laser bolts near his feet. He jumped back then looked down at the smoldering holes in the pavement I just made. Then he deficated himself. If it was DareDevil or Spider-Man or even the Blue Shield just beating him up he'd probably deal with it better. Brute force was something he could understand and handle. But something seemingly supernatural like me?  It was a frightening new world he found himself in. One where fists and guns weren't near enough.

"It was just my JOB, lady. Nothin' personal!"

"That's what Electro said." I replied "And, before I handed him his ASS, I told him it WAS personal! Because HE was one of the assholes who HURT me! And YOU'RE the other one!

"But I don't NEED a baseball bat! I don't NEED restrains. I don't NEED back up. I don't even have to lift a finger to handle a little NOTHING like you!" And with that, just standing there, I unleashed an ultra-violet burst. Ram Ramsey screamed as he got sunburned in the space of a second. I then leaped and crammed my foot into his face. The big, now unconscious, thug staggered backwards and hit the ground.

Sidestepping his droppings I walked over to him and looked down. He beats me near to death and I give him a sunburn and a broken nose in return. It wouldn't seem enough to a casual observer. But I healed physically thanks to my mutant powers. And putting the fear of Dazz into this creep did a lot for my emotional wounds. But it just wasn't enough. I had to do more. But what could I do without crossing a line?  Then I noticed the tattoo on his arm. I smiled a Grinch-like smile as a wicked idea crossed my mind.

A few minutes later I walked towards the house. Leaving behind an unconscious thug with "LEAVE ME ALONE, OR ELSE! D." burned into his chest.

Inside I found the others in the kitchen. Barrigan, Defalco and the "kidnap victim," (I found out her name was Lola), were all sitting at the table with hands in plain sight. My friends standing around them. Spidey stepped outside. No doubt to take pictures of Ram. He must have a scrapbook or something.

"All go well, Alison?" Ororo asked.

"Surprisingly well, Storm. Electro is down. The bogus 'Lawman' is down. Now it's those three."

"Dazz?" DD said. "We took the liberty of asking questions. And, with a little persuasion, we now know what this is about. Hope you don't mind."

"Mind? You guys have made my job so much easier. And you've proven I have friends who will back me up, even AVENGE me if necessary." That was all for Barrigan and company's benefit. "How could I possibly mind?"

"Great." DareDevil replied. "It seems Bo here thinks you and the Blue Shield are both out to get him considering the number of times you messed up his operations. Separately or together. After some business involving one of his prostitution rings Bo decided to take action against you and hopefully get the Shield off his back for a while. Perhaps permanently."

"Let me guess. Make me think the Kingpin hurt me and the Shield drops everything to avenge me."

"Exactly." DD continued. "Either the Shield gets taken out by the Kingpin. Or the Kingpin gets taken out by the Shield. Thus leaving his territory vulnerable for takeover. Win win.

"Except WE found you before anyone else. Thus no one but us knows that you were attacked."

"And," Added Ororo, "we got to the truth of the matter.  We know Kingpin is innocent and that Barrigan was behind it all."

"It's only a matter of time before Kingpin finds out." Threw in Johnny. "He'll be out for revenge. And he's nowhere near as nice as Dazzler."

"Pretty dumb plan, Bo." I said. "But what do you expect from an old school dinosaur like you?"

That struck a nerve. He bolted out of his chair ready to fight.

So was I.

I grabbed him by the lapels and swung him into the counter. Eyes and body glowing enough to make him wince. Bo Barrigan realized the hard way he was facing a much tougher Dazzler than the one he tried to run over with a tank last year.

"The Shield and Kingpin would have put two and two together. Then you'd have to deal with both of them. AND me." I was using the harsh voice again. "You may still have to deal with them. But, as for me? I'm tellin' you what I told Electro before I handed him his ass and sent him to the Vault.  Glora Swanson, the Hulk and I have one thing in common. We want to be left alone. Swanson's gone. You know what the Hulk is like. And you just got a mere TASTE of what I do to people who hurt me. Mess with me again in any way shape or form and things will get ugly for you REAL fast!"

An optic dazzle-beam into his face and then I flung him into the table. Which collasped under him. Defalco jumped out of his chair and so did the screaming Lola. An unconscious Bo just lay there.

I pointed to Defalco. "He in on this?"

"From the very beginning." Answered a smiling 'Devil.

I snapped my fingers and pointed towards DD. "Over there, Tommy boy. You're going on a trip."

"What trip?"

"Home, of course. Were a nice collection of police officers will be waiting for you."

"I'd do what she says, Franky." Spider-Man said as he reentered the kitchen. "I saw what she did to your boy out there. I also saw what she did to Electro and Kingpin. Believe me. The last thing you wanna do is get her dander up."

As Defalco walked over to DareDevil---As Spidey said, "Guys. You should see what she did to him. It's a HOOT!"---I faced a terrified Lola.

"P-Please. I..."

"What's your name, sweety?"

"L-Lola."

"Lola you are just a bit player here. I'm after the bigger stars."

"Then why did you pull me out of the pool?"

"Well you still gotta be punished." And, with that, I slugged her with a wicked right cross.

DD, Spidey, our prisoner and I headed for the fantasti-car. Johnny and Ororo wanted to see what the HOOT was about. This time the panic room wasn't searched. It was occupied by mob wives and their kids. Johnny and Ororo joined us and we headed back to Defalco's home where Jean DeWolfe and her people were there searching. Spidey and a webbed up Defalco dropped from the hovering fantasti-car. After Defalco was turned over and Spider-Man spoke to DeWolfe for a few minutes, (and she was given the flashdrive), Spidey rejoined us and we headed for my apartment.

"Guys. I can't thank you enough for what you did for me today."

"Our pleasure, Dazz." Spider-Man said.

"Same here." Said Johnny.

"Agreed." Replied a smiling DareDevil.

"A very interesting experience, Alison. It was enjoyable to see you embrace your warrior side. If only for a little while."

"Let me treat you guys to lunch. Pizza sound okay?"

"Actually, yeah it would." DD said.

"I am starving." Spidey replied.

"You and me both, pal." Added Johnny.

"Can I have a vegetarian?" Ororo asked.

"You sure can." I whipped out my cell and called Kirby's.

A short time later I was walking toward my favorite pizza place and talking to Harry Osgood on my cell.

"And that's that, Harry. Everyone responsible has been dealt with."

"I'm glad to hear it, Alison.  Uuhh. About Monday. Forget about it."

"Forget about it? Glad to!"

"I talked it over with your band and, despite the potential precariousness of a chivalrous mutant melodist, they still want to work with you. And since this last gig was chicane to begin with...I can overlook your truancy...just this once, mind you."

I was weeping and my voice was shakey. "Just this once. Th-thank you, Harry."

"Monday at ten for rehearsal. Your next gig should be more veritable."

"I'll be there. I don't care if Galactus shows up. I'll be there."

"I'm sure you will my noble nightengale. Till then."

I practically DANCED the rest of the way.

When I returned to my apartment I found my posse decided they didn't want to share pies with me after all. They had better things to do.

They were all passed out. Sound asleep

It HAD been a long morning for all of us.

I sighed and put the boxes on the coffee table. I went to my room, grabbed my pillow and blanket, and returned to the others. I made a mattress out of my blanket, layed down and became a part of their log sawing band.
